Student Group Committee elections

The elections for the Student Group Committee (2010-11) are going to be held at this Tuesday's Guild Council. This is a sub-committee of Guild Council and oversees societies, volunteering projects and associations in terms of recognition, derecognition, funding, discipline and many other matters.

The committee is made up of three sabbatical officers, Vice President Student Activities and Development, Vice President Sport, and Vice President Democracy and Resources, and three elected students. The committee meet once or twice a month on average, and all the committee members play a very active and crucial role in decision making.

Sam Harrow, one of the elected student representatives for this years committee reflects on his involvement: "Running for SGC is a great way to get involved 'behind the scenes' with student groups and be part of some integral decisions relating to the way societies operate. During my year on the committee we've overhauled the student group Constitution, dealt with a few disciplinary cases, recognised student groups and given thousands of pounds in grants to help societies fulfil their objectives and serve their membership. If you've been part of a student group or a committee member and thought a certain procedure is too complicated, wanted to change the way something works or wanted to be able to serve the interests of many groups on top of those you're directly involved in then SGC is the perfect committee to be involved in!"

If you would like more information about the committee, please do not hesitate to contact myself, any of the committee, or Student Development.
